Mining customer information

Australian retailers are starting to mine customer data to get consumer shopping habits. Autralian IT writes that Coles, an Australian supermarket, has started to use data mining techniques 18 months ago. Australia is late comparing to US or UK in this domain. Mr Eales, working in David Jones, another Australian store, says “we have taken a sophisticated approach to looking at who are the loyal customers for a brand we want to target and what other brands they are buying”. Moreover, the new goals of data mining in this domain is to “[…] look for other customers in the system that purchase those brands and use that as an opportunity to sell the targeted brand.”
